Show the Notify me button on product pages
Turn on the app embed in your theme, and the Notify me button appears on every sold-out product. You don't need to add any code.
Before you start: this works with Online Store 2.0 themes, such as Dawn and most themes from the Shopify Theme Store. On an older theme, see On an older theme below.
Turn on the app embed
-
In your Shopify admin, go to Online Store › Themes, then click Edit theme (or Customize) next to your current theme.

-
In the theme editor, click the App embeds icon in the left bar.
-
Turn on Back in stock! Engine, then click Save.

Check that it works: open a sold-out product in your store. The Notify me button shows under the Add to cart button.

Change where the button appears
By default the button sits under the Add to cart button. To show it somewhere else on the page, tell the app which element it should follow.
-
In the app, go to Settings › Button Style and click Customize.

-
Under General Settings, tick Customize inline button position.
-
In Insert element css selector, enter the class of the element the button should follow, for example
.price. -
In Insert type, enter
afterend, then click Save.
Not sure which class to use? Email support@scriptengine.net and our team will set it up in your store.
On an older theme
Older themes don't have app embeds. Follow Add the Notify me button with code instead.
If the button doesn't show
- The product is in stock. The button only shows when a product or the chosen variant is sold out.
- Your store keeps selling when a product is out of stock. See Show the button when you keep selling out-of-stock products.
- The app embed is set to logged-in customers only. In the app embed settings, turn off Visible to Logged-in Users Only to show the button to everyone.
- The button is limited to chosen products, or the product has the
hide-notify-buttontag. See Show or hide the button on chosen products. - The app is turned off. In the app, check that Settings › App Status says the app is enabled.
- You changed your theme. App embeds are turned on per theme, so turn it on again in the new theme.
